Widzew Lodz were eliminated in the Semi Final by Juventus. The 1983 European Cup Final was won by Hamburg SV 1:0 against Juventus in Athens.

The following Saturday Liverpool drew 0:0 with Everton at Anfield in the Merseyside derby. The result left Liverpool in 1st position in the First Division on 70 points after 31 matches; 15 points more than second placed Watford. At the season end, Liverpool were First Division League Champions - for the second season in a row - with 82 points; 11 points ahead of Watford. Indeed, the league had been wrapped up by early April; Liverpool lost 5 and drew the other 2 of their last 7 matches. At the end of March, Liverpool won the League Cup - for the third season in a row - with a 2:1 victory after extra time against Manchester United at Wembley. In his final season as Liverpool manager, Bob Paisley signed off with another League and League Cup double. One trophy that eluded Bob Paisley as manager was the FA Cup. This season the run ended in the 5th round losing 2:1 at Anfield to Brighton & Hove Albion. Brighton were managed by ex-Red Jimmy Melia and the winner was scored by Jimmy Case returning to his old home ground. Phil Neal missed a penalty for Liverpool. This was Liverpool first home defeat in a cup competition for nearly 9 years (63 matches unbeaten) and was the first ever match played at Anfield on a Sunday. In August, Liverpool had won the Charity Shield 1:0 against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley. On the 1st of July, Joe Fagan suceeded Bob Paisley as manager.
