The following Saturday Liverpool won 5:0 against Everton at Goodison Park. Ian Rush gave Liverpool a half time lead. In the second half, three more goals from Rush and another from Mark Lawrenson gave Liverpool an emphatic victory over their Merseyside neighbours who also had Glen Keeley sent off in the first half for a foul on Kenny Dalglish. The result left Liverpool in 1st position in the First Division on 25 points after 13 matches; 2 points more than Manchester City.
