The following Saturday Liverpool won 3:0 against Bolton Wanderers at Anfield thanks to a Jimmy Case hat-trick. Two goals came in the first half. The third goal came early in the second half. The result left Liverpool in 1st position in the First Division on 15 points after 8 matches; 2 points ahead of Everton. In December, Liverpool lost the European Super Cup 4:3 on aggregate to Anderlecht. At the season end, Liverpool were First Division League Champions with 68 points: 8 points ahead of Nottingham Forest. Liverpool lost 4 league matches all season scoring 85 goals. At Anfield, they were unbeaten - winning 19 of the 21 matches - scoring 51 goals and only conceding 4. They reached the FA Cup semi-finals losing 1:0 to Manchester United in a replay at Goodison Park after a 2:2 at Maine Road. Liverpool were eliminated in the 2nd round of the League Cup losing 1:0 to Second Division Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
