My second European match and apart from the confusion at the end when nearly everyone expected extra time, I remember thinking how glamorous and mysterious the Portuguese seemed. Nobody had even heard of the club let alone knew any of the players before the match began. At 2-0 up they were showboating Brazilian style which was warmly applauded by the Kop. They did, however, try on several occasions to introduce a black and white paneled football into play which at that time was unheard of. On the last occasion our trainer Mr Paisley booted it into the Anfield Rd crowd not far from where I was stood. Some lucky young lad therefore would have a nice souvenir of an otherwise disappointing evening.

I was in the Anfield Road end for this match, which was a pity since all Liverpool goals were scored into the Kop. Roger Hunt's late winner was a sensational strike, one of his best.

Vitoria Setubal were eliminated in the third round by Hertha Berlin. The 1970 Fairs Cup Final was won by Arsenal 4:3 on aggregate against Anderlecht.
