The following Saturday Liverpool drew 1:1 with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield. Roger Hunt gave Liverpool the lead in the first half. Jimmy Greaves got the equaliser for Spurs in the second half. The result left Liverpool in 16th place in the First Division on 16 points after 19 matches.
