The following Saturday week Liverpool won 4:0 against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium. The match had a 5:30 PM kick-off time. Stewart Downing gave Liverpool an early lead. Luis Suarez added two more goals before half time and completed his hat trick early in the second half. The result left Liverpool in 7th position in the Premier League on 42 points after 28 matches. Liverpool finished the season in 7th position on 61 points; 28 points behind champions Manchester United. Their league position meant there would be no European football the following season. In the FA Cup, Liverpool were eliminated in the 4th round losing 3:2 to Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park. The League Cup also ended in the 4th round with a 3:1 defeat to Swansea City, Brendan Rodgers's previous club, at Anfield.
