The following Sunday Liverpool lost 2:0 to league leaders Chelsea at Anfield. The match had a 1:30 PM kick-off time. Didier Drogba gave Chelsea a half time lead. Frank Lampard wrapped up the points for the visitors in the second half. The result left Liverpool in 7th position in the Premier League on 62 points after 37 matches. Liverpool finished the season in 7th position on 63 points; 23 points behind champions Chelsea and 7 points off a Champion League place. Liverpool lost 2:1 after extra time to Reading at Anfield, after a 1:1 draw at the Madejski Stadium, in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. The League Cup run had ended in the 4th Round with a 2:1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. In July, Rafael Benitez was replaced as manager by Roy Hodgson.
