The following Sunday Liverpool won 3:2 against Manchester City at the City of Manchester Stadium. Goals from Stephen Ireland and Javier Garrido gave City a half time advantage. In the second half, Liverpool replied with two goals from Fernando Torres and a winner in the last minute from Dirk Kuyt. Torres's first goal was Liverpool's 1000th in the Premier League. The result left Liverpool in 2nd position in the Premier League on 17 points after 7 matches; equal on points with leaders Chelsea.
