The following Friday Liverpool won 3:1 against CSKA Moscow after extra time in the European Super Cup Final at the Stade Louis II in Monaco. Daniel Carvalho gave CSKA a half time lead. Substitute Djibril Cisse equalised late in the match and scored again in the first period of extra time. Luis Garcia wrapped up the victory in the second period of extra time. Captain Jamie Carragher lifted the trophy for Liverpool's third European Super Cup success.
