The following Sunday Liverpool won 3:1 against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield. Emile Heskey gave Liverpool an early lead. Willem Korsten equalised for Spurs before half time. Gary McAllister restored Liverpool's lead with a penalty in the second half. A late Robbie Fowler goal sealed the points for Liverpool. The result left Liverpool in 5th position in the Premier League on 56 points after 33 matches; 6 points outside the Champions League places.
