The following Sunday Liverpool won 4:2 against Manchester City at Anfield in the 5th round of the FA Cup. The match had a 4:00 PM kick off time. A Jari Litmanen penalty and an Emile Heskey goal put Liverpool two up. Andrei Kanchelskis pulled one back for City before half time. Another penalty - this time from Vladimir Smicer - and a late Markus Babbel goal ensured Liverpool's progress to the next round. Shaun Goater scored a consolation goal in the last minute. Liverpool were drawn to play Tranmere Rovers away in the 6th round.
