The following Sunday Liverpool won 3:1 against Everton at Anfield. Nick Barmby opened the scoring. Kevin Campbell equalised for Everton before half time. In the second half, Emile Heskey restored Liverpool's lead. Then Thomas Gravesen was sent off for a foul on Vladimir Smicer. Patrik Berger scored from the penalty spot. The result left Liverpool in 3rd position in the Premier League on 21 points after 11 matches; 3 points behind leaders Manchester United.
